U Kin Maung was born in 1910 at Tant-se, Mandalay Division, of father U Su who was a merchant and mother, Daw Myint. He was second son of their family and had an interest in painting since childhood.
In 1932, he passed the intermediate level of Science Examination from Mandalay University.
In 1934, he took correspondence courses in art from Pyinmana U Hla. In 1935 he started drawing cartoons and commercial paintings. He also took correspondence courses in art from London School of Fine Art and Continental correspondence courses in art from USA.
In 1952, he joined the government service as a bank manager. That's why people known him as 'U Kin Maung (Bank)'. He interested in modern art since pre-war and he was an earliest founder of modern art in Myanmar. He also tried to spread out modern art in Myanmar. In 1961, he wrote about modern art and published a pamphlet by his own expenses and gave them for free. New generation artists admired him, so he explained his principle on art. He invited the artists who interest in modern art to make the modern art works. Begin from art exhibition hold in Stately Building of Literature and then he made modern art exhibitions in Yangon. We could also found his traditional modern art works in Panyoma Calendar which was published every year by Divisional Co-operative Society, Mandalay Division.
In 1971, Lokanat Galleries, the first art gallery in Yangon was founded and he was one of the founders of that gallery accompanied with U Hla Shein, U Ngwe Gaing, U San Win and U Ohn Lwin.
He carried out as a member of chairman at 'Myanmar Artists and Artisans Association Meeting' which hold on 16th December, 1981 at Saya San Hall, Kyeikkasan Stadium, in Yangon.
His close art partners in Mandalay are U Aye Kyaw, U Ba Thet and U Aung Khin. He passed away on 20th December, 1983 in Mandalay.
